"I don't usually like to suggest ideas that others are doing, but in this case I think it'd be really helpful. Church Web Works has an 'Alerts Widget' that inserts itself on the homepage to broadcast important information, such as cancellations due to weather. It was very helpful, stood out quite well, and was implemented very nicely.

Due to the ice storm & cold across the south this week, we're having a nearly constant stream of cancellations, and it's hard to get that information to stand out in a prominent way on the website. Would it be possible to implement something like this? Perhaps have it insert below the menu tabs, but above the rest of the home page content, or maybe be a pop-up window that appear when the homepage loads? I'm sure the coding for this is more complicated than I'm aware, but it would be extremely helpful."
